Apparently, the server crashes are due to high volume of traffic on the blog. Who knew? Traffic overload was never a consideration on blogger, so it didn’t occur to me that it would be the problem in this case.
So basically, when I get to a certain number of visitors on the main blog, (at the same time presumably) it not only causes my blog to crash, but all the blogs that are operating on the same server.
Anyway, Luna, (bless her cottons, her blog is kaput too) is gonna get me my own server (erm, or something like that) so it shouldn’t happen in the future.
What I still don’t understand is why it takes the host company so long to fix this, surely they could have sorted this out in a matter of minutes? A couple of hours at most?
Anyway, the blog should be back by 5pm GMT. Although, you may want to bookmark this blog, include it in your Google Reader, or get the RSS feed for it, just in case my main blog goes down again, because this is where you’ll find me.
Shiloh, just for you, I got rid of the black and red template. *g*

Not Shiloh, but thanking you all the same, this is much easier to read!
And I had already bookmarked your emergency home :p

Your own server? Do you mean hosting your website on a different server, because your own server is going to cost you far more money. I honestly doubt you need a whole server to yourself. What’s your monthly bandwidth? I know Lunarpages offers plenty of bandwidth at a pretty low monthly cost. Used to use them myself back in 2004 or so and they were pretty reliable back then.

I assume it means hosting my site on a different server to the others. I honestly don’t know.
When I first decided to move, I bought a two year package with Blue Host, but apparently they crash all the time, so I asked for my money back.
Luna suggested that to save money, I could be hosted on her server (are these the correct terms?) with her other clients, so seeing as I’d rather not spend money on this blog if I don’t have to, I agreed.
I probably should have stuck with Bluehost. OK, maybe not.

Oh yes, you definitely need your own server. You’ve got gobs and gobs of traffic. 🙂

Oh the burden of being popular. LOL

Um, so a hosting company that never considered the possibility of people actually visiting your site?

lol… I get the feeling it’s more along the lines of a server that only allows X amount of hits a day and any more and the blog goes bye-bye until the next day rolls around. 😉 Karen’s too popular for her own good.

She’s back, she’s back!!!

That or there is another site on that server where Karen’s blog is that is consuming all the bandwidth allocated to that server. If this is the case, that site has to be moved, not Karen’s. My site has 20GB bandwidth every month and even with the downloads of all those guy photos (and yikes, that part eats huge bandwidth like crazy), I have used up the bandwidth only once in the three years I am with my current host. I doubt a blog without any downloads will use up enough bandwidth to crash a host unless it’s been Slashdot’ed.

They must have a very small server capacity if they crash with the traffic from your site. How much bandwidth are you allowed/using in a month? You might want to look for a larger webhost. I’m with these folks and I’ve only every heard good things about them: http://fuzioned.com/awbs/index.php I’ve also heard good things about

These two sites are good for recommendations
